One thing I will always steer clear of is when an ad states "received in trade (meaning it's USED) but NEVER fired".

IMO, that is a red flag that the firearm may likely have issues, and the seller would like to maintain "plausible deniability".

I'll further expand on that to say that basically ANY firearm that is advertised as "BNIB" is very very likely not in fact brand new, never fired. "Almost new, put back in the box after I fired a couple mags through it and didn't end up liking it" is more accurate in a lot of cases.
